JUDGMENT OF RECORD ·
Ad reach is now a weapon between platforms. Meta stopped selling ads to TikTok in seven countries, cutting its rival off from Facebook and Instagram reach.
On Oct 8 Meta began blocking all ads and paid messages from ByteDance in the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, per Bloomberg as cited by Reuters. The ban also covers third parties running campaigns that link to TikTok. Meta said it does not have to run ads from a competitor trying to pull people off its apps. TikTok did not comment.
On Oct 9 Puck reported Netflix is preparing to cut about 5% of staff, roughly 800 jobs, with an announcement possible the week of Oct 12. Netflix declined to comment. Its third quarter revenue guidance came in below analyst estimates, and it reports on Oct 20.
The layer moving is distribution. The largest social ad seller now decides which rivals can buy reach, so paid user acquisition stops being a neutral market. Distribution Capture governs. Confidence is Medium: Meta confirmed the ban, but its effect on TikTok growth is not yet measurable.

WHAT WOULD PROVE THIS WRONG
Meta lifts the ByteDance ad ban before Mar 31, 2027, or a regulator in any of the seven countries orders it reversed.
