JUDGMENT OF RECORD ·
AI data center demand is now raising phone prices midcycle. Google and Samsung lifted US prices up to $100 at the budget end as memory costs climb.
On Oct 2 Google raised the Pixel 10a 128GB from $499 to $599, about seven months after launch. Samsung raised every US Galaxy S26 tier by $100 and the 1TB Ultra by $200. Its A series rose $20 to $50 a model, with the A17 now at $269. Google gave no reason. Samsung cited higher memory prices in Q2 results, and SK hynix ties those rises to AI infrastructure demand.
Software keeps getting cheaper as hardware gets dearer. On Oct 1 Shopify launched Canvas, letting merchants build a store by chatting with its agent. As context, a Sept 30 ruling dismissed publisher suits over Google's AI Overviews.
The layer moving is infrastructure supply. Memory makers capture margin that device brands pass to buyers before the holidays. Profit Migration governs. Confidence is Medium: Samsung's cause is on record, Google's is inferred.
