JUDGMENT OF RECORD ·
Memory makers are taking the AI margin. Samsung guided a record $80B quarterly profit, and TSMC's September sales rose 54.6%, while chip buyers borrow to keep up.
On Oct 8 Samsung guided third quarter operating profit to about 107.4 trillion won, roughly $80B, up from 12.17 trillion a year earlier, on sales of about 195 trillion won. Analysts cited by The Korea Times put memory alone near 110 trillion won, helped by HBM4 for Nvidia's Vera Rubin. DRAM prices still rose at double digit rates. Final results are due Oct 29.
On Oct 8 TSMC reported September revenue of NT$511.86B, up 54.6% from a year earlier, and NT$3.9T for the first nine months, up 41.1%. Reuters reported on Oct 6 that SpaceX is seeking $40B, about $30B of it investment grade debt with Apollo expected to lead, to buy Nvidia chips.
The layer moving is infrastructure. Supply of memory and leading edge wafers is short, so the suppliers set price and the buyers finance the bill. Profit Migration governs and stays Active. Confidence is Medium: Samsung's figures are guidance, and the memory split is an analyst estimate until Oct 29.
