JUDGMENT OF RECORD ·
Feeds are becoming prompts. YouTube and Spotify now let users type what they want, and YouTube is already pointing that intent at shopping.
YouTube announced Custom Feeds at Made on YouTube on Sept 23. Users describe a feed in plain words, Gemini builds it, and it sits as a tab on the Home page. It rolls out in the US on web, mobile and TV. Spotify began the US rollout of Taste Profile the same day for adult Premium users.
Stated intent is a stronger signal than watch history. YouTube paired the launch with Ask YouTube, which answers product questions with videos and comparison tables. The same typed intent that ranks a feed can rank a product.
The layer moving is behavior. Both features sit beside the main algorithm, not in place of it, so adoption is unproven. The governing signal is Interface Shift. Confidence stays Low until usage figures appear.

WHAT WOULD PROVE THIS WRONG
YouTube or Spotify reports that under 10% of eligible US users built a custom feed or edited their taste profile by June 30, 2027, or YouTube withdraws Custom Feeds.
