Walmart joining Muse isolates Amazon, but the agent owner, not the payment rails, is lining up to take the fee.
Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, Wayfair, Gap and others joined Meta's Muse agent at Meta Connect on Sept 23. Meta said it will take a small fee on transactions and did not give a rate.
A screenshot the same day showed Meta Pay as a checkout option beside Shop Pay and Stripe Link. Shopify fell more than 7% intraday and gave back its gains. The market read it as Meta moving into the payment step.
Amazon is now alone. It has about $68B of sponsored ad revenue to protect, per Forbes. The governing signal is Distribution Capture, and Meta holds the chokepoint.
Meta discloses a Muse transaction fee of 1% or less and routes most Muse checkouts through Shop Pay, PayPal or Stripe rather than Meta Pay by Q1 2027.
